WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Debbie Dingell (D-MI) today released the following statement applauding Toyota Motor Corp., Fiat Chrysler, and other automakers for abandoning efforts to overturn California’s zero emission rules.

“Today automakers demonstrated their commitment to combatting climate change and transitioning to a new era of clean energy,” said Congresswoman Dingell. “For months, we have brought the auto industry, labor leaders, and environmental advocates to the table to build consensus and move us closer towards reaching our shared goals. But there is a lot of hard work ahead of us. Automakers need to make good on their promises, government officials need to demonstrate true leadership, and advocates need to hold us all accountable. Together, we will establish a new framework for a national program for automobile greenhouse gas emissions that unites California and every state so we can protect our environment, create jobs, and guarantee America’s place as a global leader in mobility.”
