WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Debbie Dingell (D-MI) today released the following statement applauding President Joe Biden for ending United States support for the Saudi Arabia-led coalition in Yemen’s civil war. Dingell was among the first Members of Congress to raise concerns about civilian deaths in Yemen under the Obama Administration, and continued to call on former President Donald Trump to end American support in the humanitarian crisis.

“United States engagement in Yemen has given credibility and cover to a Saudi Arabia-led offensive that has killed thousands of innocent civilians and starved millions more,” said Congresswoman Dingell. “By ending support for offensive operations, our government can focus on the diplomacy and humanitarian relief necessary to bring peace and safety to millions in the country and surrounding region. With a large Yemeni community in the 12th District, I know the immense pain and suffering of our neighbors who have lost family and friends to this war and the ensuing humanitarian crisis it has caused. Today, we begin a new chapter of American leadership in Yemen, but that only means the hardest work is ahead of us.”
