WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Debbie Dingell (D-MI) today released the following statement applauding the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) two actions to address per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in drinking water. As the author of the PFAS Action Act, Dingell has been a leader in Congress in efforts to establish strong national drinking water standards for PFAS chemicals, jump start environmental contamination clean-up, and rid these harmful chemicals where ever they exist.
“No one should be forced to drink water contaminated with dangerous, deadly forever chemicals like PFAS,” said Congresswoman Dingell. “With today’s actions, the Biden-Harris Administration and the EPA are taking an urgent step towards providing clean drinking water for our communities. But our work is far from over and more legislative action is required, and that is why I will reintroduce the PFAS Action Act soon to establish a national drinking water standard for PFOA and PFOS.”
After a thorough review initiated by President Biden’s executive orders, the EPA is reissuing final regulatory determinations for perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) and perfluorooctanesulfonic acid (PFOS) under the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) and reproposing a rule to collect data on PFAS in drinking water.
