WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Debbie Dingell (D-MI) today announced $476,490 in National Science Foundation (NSF) grant funding for autonomous vehicle research conducted by the University of Michigan. The funding will be used to develop cybersecurity defense technology to protect connected autonomous vehicles, as well as to prototype the proposed solutions and evaluate them on the University of Michigan-Dearborn shuttle, on the University of Michigan MCity Test Facility, and on commercial tools.

“Building a new era of mobility with autonomous vehicles requires a deep understanding of the potential threats and vulnerabilities that exist in the industry,” said Congresswoman Dingell. “By investing in this critical research at the University of Michigan, we can prepare for the future and protect the consumers who will ride in the AVs being developed today. We will keep Michigan, our workers, and our researchers at the forefront of auto and mobility innovation with these proactive strategies.”
