WASHINGTON, DC - Today, Congresswoman Debbie Dingell (MI-12) announced $100,000 in Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) funding to Purafide, LLC, a plasma water reactor in Ann Arbor, Michigan for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) remediation. Administered by the EPA, and as part of the Small Business Innovation Research Program, the $2,499,229 in awards will support 24 small businesses, including Purafide, as they develop innovative technologies that protect public health and the environment.

“Supporting our entrepreneurs means supporting our communities,” said Rep. Dingell. “I applaud the EPA for their support and congratulate Purafide and all the other innovative small businesses who received this award. With this funding, we can work towards the urgent need for safer drinking water for our neighbors, better protection for the environment, and an equitable future for all.”

In addition to funding for land revitalization, especially PFAS remediation in potable reuse systems, science and technology-based small businesses in the following issue areas received awards: air quality, clean and safe water, homeland security, sustainable materials management, and safer chemicals.

As the author of the PFAS Action Act, Dingell has been a leader in Congress in efforts to establish strong national drinking water standards for PFAS chemicals, jump start environmental contamination clean-up, and rid these harmful chemicals wherever they exist.
