Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that Memphis will receive $15,502,585 and Shelby County will receive $6,812,110 in Emergency Rental Assistance. The funding, in coordination with the U.S. Department of the Treasury, the White House American Rescue Plan Implementation Team and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, will help prevent evictions and ensure basic housing security for households affected by the pandemic and its economic fallout.

Congressman Cohen made the following statement:

“This is much-needed and timely assistance for both renters and landlords affected by COVID-19 and its unwelcome impact on too many renters’ ability to pay their rent. I’m pleased that the infusion comes as court rulings have made many anxious about challenges to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s eviction moratorium. This funding will directly benefit those facing the prospect of eviction.”
