WASHINGTON, DC - Today, Congresswoman Debbie Dingell (MI-12) issued the following statement as governors of 12 U.S. states sent a letter to the Biden Administration urging a phase out of gas-powered vehicle sales and move to zero-emission vehicles by 2035:
“We stand at a pivotal moment in the climate crisis for the United States to lead the world once again and move forward with bold policies to achieve a clean economy and strong, sustainable middle class – this includes making a rapid, transformational shift across the transportation sector to advance electrification and the vehicles of the future. We can only make this shift through robust investments, sound incentives, and by working collectively with all stakeholders at the table, without losing sight of who will really help us make these environmental achievements possible – American workers. As we make the change to all-electric, we must ensure we are providing good paying union jobs and protections for Americans workers so that no one is left behind. If Michigan and the United States are to remain the center of the automotive industry and meet the demands we face from climate, we must stay on the forefront of innovation and technology, while deploying the might and ingenuity of the American workforce.”
