WASHINGTON - Today, Congressman Lee Zeldin (R, NY-1), member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, joined Republican colleagues from the House and Senate, including Congresswoman Maria Elvira Salazar (R, FL-27), Senator Marco Rubio (R, FL), Senator Rick Scott (R, FL), Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart (R, FL-25), Congressman Carlos Gimenez (R, FL-26) and House Republican Whip Steve Scalise (R, LA-1), at a press conference in front of the United States Capitol in support of the Cuban people and their desire to achieve freedom from the authoritarian Castro regime.
Congressman Zeldin, along with the other Members of Congress participating in today’s press conference, called on the Biden Administration to utilize our power to turn on internet access and enhance communication for the Cuban people.
“I certainly don’t want to ever see what we’re witnessing in Cuba grow here in the United States. We are seeing the ills and evils of socialism, from the economic oppression and lack of opportunity to the substandard housing and healthcare,” said Congressman Zeldin. “None of that has any place in our country and for our allies, the Cuban people. We have a duty and obligation to speak up, step up and help ensure the Cuban people are able to achieve freedom.”
