Congressman Cohen made the following statement:

“I’m pleased Secretary Pete accepted my invitation and is taking the time to see first-hand the disruption in traffic caused by the closure of the Hernando DeSoto Bridge. We will be visiting FedEx and will meet with freight companies where the Secretary will hear directly of the economic impact on this area and on the country at large. I look forward to pointing out other Memphis transportation needs as we travel through the community.”

According to the U.S. Department of Transportation Office of Communications:

At 11:00 a.m., Secretary Buttigieg will participate in a roundtable at the FedEx distribution center in Memphis to discuss how the bridge closure has negatively affected freight movement out of Memphis, which is a critical freight hub for the entire country. This event will be pooled press.

At noon, Secretary Buttigieg will tour the I-40 bridge worksite. This event will be pooled press.

At 2:15 p.m., Secretary Buttigieg will give remarks near the I-40 bridge alongside Tennessee and Arkansas elected officials and transportation leaders. If you would like to cover this event, please emailpressoffice@dot.gov. This event will also be streamed.
