Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) applauded the Biden Administration’s decision to send Second Gentleman of the United States Doug Emhoff (Vice President Kamala Harris’ husband) to Memphis on Wednesday to draw attention to the need to get coronavirus vaccination rates increased. Emhoff most recently visited Memphis in early May to speak in support of the American Jobs Plan, an ambitious infrastructure measure.
Congressman Cohen made the following statement:
“We know there are parts of Memphis that may not have gotten the message that getting vaccinated against the coronavirus is the solution to returning to normal and getting healthy and safe and protecting our hospitals and health care workers. I welcome the Second Gentleman’s return to Memphis and hope that his outreach on this issue will spur action and benefit our community. Since I will be in Washington for votes and Committee meetings, I will not be able to greet the Second Gentleman, but I thank him for coming.
“I have been vaccinated and encourage everyone to get the vaccine. Having immunity from Covid is important for each individual, their family members, neighbors, friends, and for the community as a whole. We are in this together.”
