WASHINGTON, DC - Today, Congresswoman Debbie Dingell (MI-12) released the following statement after the Department of Labor issued a long-awaited Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Emergency Temporary Standard (ETS):
“Almost three months after the original deadline, some workers are finally receiving support and protection through the ETS. This ETS is a small step in the right direction, but it still leaves many workers unprotected from the dangers of this virus, including many that COVID has disproportionately impacted. As more people get vaccinated and mask mandates are relaxed, we have a responsibility to continue protecting our nation’s frontline workers who still risk their lives every day to support essential services across the country. My colleagues and I will continue to fight for fair and robust safety measures for all frontline workers regardless of occupation, zip-code, or skin color.”
As Co-Chair of the Congressional Labor Caucus, Dingell has continuously called for the implementation of an OSHA Emergency Temporary Standard throughout the pandemic, most recently leading a letter to President Biden on the urgent need for a standard as included in his Executive Order on Protecting Worker Health and Safety.
