WASHINGTON, DC - Today, Congresswoman Debbie Dingell (MI-12) released the following statement after the House joined the Senate in voting to invalidate former President Donald Trump’s 2020 Recission Rule that gutted regulations on toxic methane emissions for new and modified oil and gas facilities.

“Methane is toxic gas that is 84 times more toxic than carbon dioxide and poses a significant threat to public health and our environment,” said Rep. Dingell. “The Trump Administration’s actions to repeal methane emission standards undermined public health, scientific consensus, and was a move in the wrong direction in our fight to combat the Climate Crisis. With the passage of this resolution, we are restoring critical methane emission standards to protect communities from these toxic gases and help the Biden Administration move forward with plans further cut greenhouse gas emissions.”

Rep. Dingell has fought to protect and improve methane emission reduction standards in the past, including signing a letter with over 80 of her colleagues to former EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler opposing Trump’s methane rule.
