WASHINGTON – The House of Representatives passed S. 1301 – Temporary Extension of Public Debt Limit. This legislation will raise the nation’s debt ceiling through early December 2021. Congressman Alex X. Mooney (WV-02) voted against the bill and called for regular order to return to the appropriations process.
“Democrats want to spend trillions of dollars the country can’t afford and expect Republicans to bail them out. I voted against raising the debt limit because our national debt is already too high. President Joe Biden and Speaker Nancy Pelosi will spend the next few months trying to figure out how many trillions of dollars in new government spending they can force Democrats in Congress to capitulate to. They will continue to twist arms in the House and Senate before hitting the credit card limit again in December,” said Congressman Mooney.
“I support and have voted for funding government at the appropriate levels after input from all elected representatives in the regular appropriations bills. West Virginian families have to balance their budgets each month and the federal government should do the same. Kicking the fiscal can down the road is not a solution to our budget problems. Voters deserve a Congress that does a better job of finding solutions to our mounting national debt crisis,” said Rep. Mooney
