WASHINGTON, DC - Today, Congresswomen Debbie Dingell (MI-12) and Marcy Kaptur (OH-09) sent a letter to House Leadership urging for the inclusion of $1.5 billion in federal funding to enhance the economic and environmental revitalization of our Great Lakes and surrounding communities in any infrastructure package.

As Congress considers legislative proposals to rebuild our nation’s infrastructure and revitalize the environment, the Representatives wrote, “This letter specifically requests any infrastructure package includes $1.5 billion for the Great Lakes Legacy Act and Areas of Concern (AOC) program operated by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Great Lakes National Program Office under the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (GLRI). Restoring these toxic hotspots will accelerate economic recovery, create suitable growth for a region recovering from generations of disinvestment, and help us rebuild stronger.”

Additional House cosigners include Representatives Tlaib (MI-12), Schakowsky (IL-09), Levin (MI-09), Moore (WI-04), Higgins (NY-26), Rush (IL-01), Mrvan (IN-01), Slotkin (MI-08), Lawrence (MI-14), Foster (IL-11), Kildee (MI-05), Quigley (IL-05), Morelle (NY-25), Garcia (IL-04), Ryan (OH-13), and Schneider (IL-10).
