Congressman Cohen Demands Reconsideration of Wild Horse Roundup

Tennessee

Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a member of the Natural Resources Committee and a longtime member of the Congressional Animal Protection Caucus, released the following statement on Bureau of Land Management (BLM) plans to round up wild horses on Sunday:

“I encourage the Bureau of Land Management to reconsider its scheduled roundup and redistribution of the Onaqui wild horse herd this weekend. These majestic, federally protected creatures deserve better treatment and more humane management than has been the historical practice. Roundups such as the one planned for Sunday often result in horses dying or breaking legs as they run from helicopters. I hope to work with my former colleague, Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland, on developing updated plans to keep these horses in the wild where they belong.”
