WASHINGTON – Congressman Alex X. Mooney (WV-02) today issued the following statement on the situation in Afghanistan following President Biden’s press conference:
“President Biden’s press conference did little to reassure the American people that the situation in Afghanistan is under control. It has been clear since the beginning of the withdrawal that the Biden Administration was ill-prepared, with the President ignoring memos from the State Department warning of the imminent collapse of the Afghan government. This has led to thousands of Americans stranded in Afghanistan and American military equipment now in the hands of Taliban forces. The Biden Administration must make it clear to the Taliban that if American citizens are harmed during their exit from the country, there will be serious consequences.”
