WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Debbie Dingell (MI-12) introduced legislation celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 15 mission from July 26, 1971 to August 7, 1971, and its all University of Michigan trained crew. The Apollo 15 mission was the ninth crewed U.S. mission of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s Apollo program, the first with a spacewalk in deep space, the first to use a lunar rover to explore the Moon’s surface, and the first crewed spacecraft to deploy a satellite.

“50 years ago, the Apollo 15 mission made history with the United States taking the world to parts of space never seen before and was manned by a crew who all studied at the University of Michigan,” said Dingell. “As we mark this anniversary, we recognize the significant achievements of this successful mission and commit to pursuing space exploration to deepen our understanding of the universe and Earth.”
