DEARBORN, MI - Today, Congresswoman Debbie Dingell (MI-12) announced that the Superior Township Fire Department will receive a $205,745 regional grant through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program. This funding will be used to purchase upgraded personal protective equipment and turnout gear for individual firefighter safety.

“Our firefighters and first responders put their lives on the line every single day to keep our communities safe,” Dingell said. “This critical funding will ensure that they are well equipped with upgraded protective gear to stay safe while on the job and protect Michigan families at the same time. This grant funding is a testament to Chief Chevrette’s leadership and the strong efforts of Superior Township firefighters.”

“This funding will help outfit 139 firefighters regionally with new turnout gear,” said Fire Chief Victor Chevrette. “The new gear will save the Department thousands of dollars and also adds to the safety of our firefighters as they continue to protect our communities. We’re grateful for Congresswoman Dingell’s support and look forward to continuing to serve and protect Michiganders.”

The AFG program awards grants directly to fire departments and EMS organizations that are unaffiliated with a hospital to enhance their response capabilities and to more effectively protect the health and safety of the public and emergency response personnel with respect to fire and all other hazards.
