DEARBORN, MI - Today, Congresswoman Debbie Dingell (MI-12) released the following statement on the 20th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001:

“20 years later and we have not forgotten the pain and suffering that blanketed the nation on September 11, 2001 during the worst terrorist attack on American soil.

“I still remember feeling a sense of fear on my flight to from Detroit to Washington, DC that morning before the attack occurred. I vividly remember begging John to leave the Capitol immediately amidst the reports of the attacks. I remember the chaos, the panic, the uncertainty as the reports kept updating throughout the day. I remember the grief that so many still deal with on a daily basis. But I also remember the sense of togetherness.

“20 years ago, terrorists tried to divide us, but they united us. We came together to stand up against hatred and terrorism, to bring food and resources to the affected families, to lend a shoulder to our neighbors to ease their pain.

“On this 20-year anniversary, we need to remember that unity and compassion we carry with us each day. My heart continues to be with the families and friends grieving the 2,977 lives that were stolen from us by terrorists, and I commit to doing everything I can in Congress and in my community to uphold that unity and fight against terrorism and anyone who tries to divide our country.”
