Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) launched her first TV and digital ad of the 2022 campaign, titled Back on Track. In the ad, Murray speaks about her consistent focus on building an economy that puts working people and middle-class families in Washington state first, not the very wealthiest and giant corporations.

“Things are hard, but it’s all of you that are getting our country back on track,” said Murray. “The economy should work for you too–middle-class tax cuts, instead of more tax breaks for big corporations making record profits.”

“Invest in American manufacturing to increase wages and bring down prices,” continues Murray. “And lower costs, from tuition to childcare to healthcare. I’m Patty Murray, and I approve this message to stand up to anyone who doesn’t put you first.

MIDDLE-CLASS TAX CUTS: Back on Track highlights some of Murray’s recent legislative accomplishments and current priorities in Congress. Through the American Rescue Plan, Murray helped push for and pass one of the largest middle-class tax cuts in history through the expanded Child Tax Credit, which cut child poverty nearly in half. After the passage of the American Rescue Plan, the New York Times noted Patty deployed the “legislative muscle and deep experience to deliver on [President Biden’s] bold promises.” In Congress, Murray is fighting to make the expanded Child Tax Credit permanent.

INVESTING IN AMERICAN MANUFACTURING: Murray helped pass the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, a landmark investment in job-creating traditional infrastructure like roads, bridges, and airports, as well as in public transit and clean energy. The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law will help create good-paying jobs in every part of Washington state–and as Chair of the Senate Labor Committee, Murray secured provisions in the law to protect workers and provide good wages and benefits.

Senator Murray is a key negotiator of a major bipartisan chips and manufacturing bill; this legislation would be a historic step forward for American manufacturing and innovation–particularly semiconductors, which will make Washington state less reliant on foreign markets for the chips we need to get countless products on our shelves. Murray is currently working to resolve the differences between the Senate-passed United States Innovation and Competition Act (USICA) and the House-passed America Creating Opportunities for Manufacturing, Pre-Eminence in Technology, and Economic Strength (COMPETES) Act.

Over time, steps to strengthen supply chains through the Bipartisan Infrastructure will also ease bottlenecks, fight inflation, and help bring down costs.

LOWERING COSTS: Murray’s top priority in Congress right now is lowering everyday costs for people in Washington state. Notably, Murray is leading Senate Democrats in pushing for a broad proposal to lower the cost of prescription drugs, health care, and child care–all paid for by making sure the wealthiest and giant corporations finally pay their fair share of taxes.

In the American Rescue Plan, Murray secured provisions to cut premiums by expanding the Affordable Care Act–in Washington state, at the start of this year, that has meant that around two in five customers have coverage for less than $100 a month, and 46,000 people are covered for less than $10 a month. In 2020, Murray passed the historic No Surprises Act which went into effect at the start of this year and has already stopped 2 million surprise bills in just the past two months.

STRONG SUPPORT FROM WORKING PEOPLE: A longtime advocate for a fairer, stronger economy and for working people, Murray has already won the endorsement of major labor organizations and unions from across Washington state, including the Washington State Labor Council AFL-CIO, ILWU, WFSCE, NEA, IAM 751, Pacific Northwest Ironworkers, IBEW 77, and LiUNA Washington and Northern Idaho.About Back on Track: The ad was shot in Seattle at Vigor’s 27-acre Harbor Island shipyard, which specializes in ship repair and modernization for government and commercial customers. Additionally, Vigor’s Harbor Island shipyard and its skilled workforce have built well over half the current Washington State Ferries’ fleet. Murray is joined on screen by Vigor employees who are union workers.
