Dingell Urges OSHA to Issue Permanent Health Protections for Workers for the Duration of the Pandemic, Emphasizes Need to Support Nurses and Health Care Workers

Washington, January 5, 2022

WASHINGTON, DC - Today, Congresswoman Debbie Dingell (MI-12) released the following statement calling for OSHA to issue a permanent health care standard to protect health care workers amidst the ongoing pandemic:

“In Michigan and across the country, our nurses and healthcare workers continue to be stretched too thin with little protection or support in the midst of a raging pandemic. With the rise of the Omicron variant and a life-threatening COVID surge, hospitals are overflowing while nurses and other frontline workers are getting sick. Nurses are exhausted – this pandemic continues to take a toll on their physical and mental well-being, while also affecting their patients. It’s on us to do something about it. We were finally able to get an emergency temporary standard back in June of 2021, and that has now expired. We need OSHA to issue a permanent health care standard – it’s going to save lives and protect our nation’s health care workers who still risk their lives every day to keep us safe and healthy.”
