DEARBORN, MI — Today, Congresswoman Debbie Dingell announced a total of $384.7 million—more than double Michigan’s typical annual funding—in federal funding to help hardworking Michigan families with energy costs this winter through the Department of Health and Human Services’ Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). This funding includes Michigan’s annual appropriation of $146.5 million and an additional $238.2 million in funds from the American Rescue Plan. As Americans continue to deal with the impacts of the pandemic, LIHEAP grantees will be able to use the funding from Congress to help more than 5 million households stay warm this winter, cover utility costs, and pay for energy repairs.
“As hardworking Michiganders continue to recover from the impacts of the pandemic, this critical LIHEAP investment will help families keep the heat on so they can stay warm, safe, and healthy this winter,” said Rep. Dingell.
