Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) will receive a $705,287 grant from the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute for research predicting the progression of chronic kidney disease in sickle cell anemia using machine learning models.
Congressman Cohen made the following statement:
“I’m very pleased to see this investment in research on sickle cell disease, which is a serious problem for residents of Tennessee’s 9th Congressional District. Better understanding this disease, which primarily affects African Americans, is critically important in saving lives.”
