Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that Southwest Tennessee Community College has received a $600,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Education’s Predominantly Black Institutions Program to improve educational outcomes for African American male students.
Congressman Cohen made the following comment:
“Keeping young Black men in school and encouraging their persistence rewards not just the students themselves but our whole community. This is a wise investment in educational outcomes and in our community.”
Last week, the Department of Education awarded Southwest Tennessee Community College a grant for on-campus childcare aimed at retaining students with children.
