Congressman Cohen Expresses Concern for Human Rights in Poland and Hungary

Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), Co-Chairman of the Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe, better known as the Helsinki Commission, today questioned expert witnesses at a hearing on “Upholding OSCE Commitments in Hungary and Poland.” Co-Chairman Cohen expressed concern about both countries’ authoritarian and Anti-Semitic trends, including an erosion of freedoms of expression, voting rights and of the press.

In his questions to the witnesses, Congressman concentrated on Hungary’s use of soft power to enhance ethno-nationalism, including among ethnic Hungarian residents of neighboring countries.
