Springfield, MA – Congressman Richard E. Neal joined Pioneer Valley Transit Authority (PVTA) Administrator Sandra Sheehan and Springfield Mayor Domenic J. Sarno on Monday to announce a $7.21 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Fiscal Year 2021 Low and No Emission Vehicle Grant Program.
“The PVTA has been steadfast in fulfilling their commitment to providing quality transportation service to our community, especially during the pandemic,” said Congressman Neal. “This grant will prove to be hugely beneficial to the PVTA in their efforts to reach their clean energy goals.”
“As part of our vision at PVTA, we are committed to expand upon projects that reduce energy consumption and increase access to clean, efficient mass transit,” said Sheehan. “This Low and No Emission Vehicle Grant Program will help PVTA transition our fleet to cleaner, more energy efficient vehicles.”
Mayor Sarno states, “Once again Congressman Neal has come through for our City of Springfield. This $7.21 million grant to keep our regional PVTA buses clean and environmentally friendly is a testament to his leadership and advocacy and will help improve our carbon footprint and help the region and the Commonwealth meet all of the lower emission goals we’ve set. Thank you to PVTA Administrator Sandra Sheehan for her continued vision to improving and enhancing our public transit system.”
The Low and No Emission (Low-No) Vehicle Grant Program supports transit agencies in purchasing or leasing low- or no-emission buses and other transit vehicles that use advanced technologies such as battery electric and fuel-cell power to provide cleaner, more energy efficient transit service in communities across the country.
