Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a senior member of the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, today announced that Tennessee will receive $1,119,497,252 for roads and bridges through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. Congressman Cohen voted for the measure which President Biden signed into law last month.
This is the first round of funding under the five years of federal investment in Tennessee’s highways authorized by the new law.
Congressman Cohen made the following statement:
“I was proud to support the bipartisan infrastructure law, and pleased to see funding for Tennessee roads, bridges, pipelines and broadband that will flow into our state, create jobs, improve supply chain efficiencies and get people and goods on the move. These federal dollars represent a major first step toward strengthening our state’s essential infrastructure. This funding translates directly into reduced commuting times and will help our businesses get their products to market while keeping travelers safer on our roads and highways. As I’ve said before, America is on the move again.”
The historic and bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, signed into law by President Biden on November 15th, 2021, secured new federal funding for highway and bridge repair for communities across the nation. The funds, administered by the Federal-aid Highway Program, can be used for construction, reconstruction or improvement.
