Congresswoman Debbie Dingell (MI-12) today released the following statement on the passing of former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright.

“Our nation lost a hero today. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright was the face of US foreign policy throughout some of the most difficult times for our nation and the world. She broke barriers and opened the door wider for those that followed her,” said Dingell. “She brought nations together to expand NATO and defend the very pillars of democracy across the world. She fought for diplomatic solutions to ending genocide. She reduced the spread of nuclear weapons and made the world a safer place. She taught us that we can solve some of the world’s most difficult issues by bringing people together and having tough, uncomfortable conversations. I was proud to call her a friend and mentor – and even a teacher in seminars I attended at Georgetown. I will miss her dearly.”
