Today, the first day of Black History Month, Ways and Means Committee Chairman Richard E. Neal (D-MA) released the following statement:
“Black history is American history, deserving of celebration and reflection every month of the year. This February, as we make special note of Black Americans’ indispensable contributions to our nation, it’s essential we also observe the ways in which the United States must evolve to ensure that all people in our society – regardless of skin color – enjoy the same opportunities for healthy, financially secure lives.
“I’m proud of the Ways and Means Committee’s Racial Equity Initiative and its work spearheading policies to advance justice, break down barriers to economic success, and eliminate disparities in health care quality and outcomes. These efforts are central to the Committee’s pandemic response and leadership in Congress’s effort to build back better.
“I hope that everyone in Massachusetts and across the country will take time in the coming weeks to reflect on where our nation has been, the potential for its future, and the vital role Black Americans have played in shaping who we are and leading us forward.”
