Washington — Today, Representative Rick Crawford (AR-01) released the following statement in response to the passage of funding for Israel’s Iron Dome system. The Iron Dome is a defense system utilized by the Israel military to neutralize any air missiles that are a threat to the country and its civilians. This system was developed by both the United States and Israel and has been financially backed by the two countries in past years.
This week, the Iron Dome was threatened as funding for the system was axed from a broader spending bill. However, a standalone bill was quickly passed on Thursday night to provide funding.
“I appreciate Speaker Pelosi’s willingness to reverse course after initially caving to a demand by the party’s anti-Israel wing to eliminate funding for the Iron Dome, which is lifesaving defensive system that protects Israelis and Palestinians from terror attacks. When Hamas and other terrorist organizations launched more than 4,300 rockets at Israel earlier in the year, this critical defense system intercepted more than 90 percent of the rockets that would have rained down on civilians. Make no mistake, the Iron Dome is saving countless Israeli and Palestinian lives and is a necessary tool that reduces the chances of war,” said Rep. Crawford.
