Jon Chuba: Education

Every child deserves a good education to help prepare them for their future. It's time we made changes to our educational system to ensure all children can reach their full potential based on their unique gifts and talents.

No child who cares about their education should be left in a failing school just because their family lives in a low income neighborhood. My initial plan is to offer school vouchers to well-performing students. However, I also have a vision for a future where schools are not based on the area, but on the status of the student.

I believe we should create schools that can help troubled students steer their lives in a positive direction, schools that offer special assistance to students that are behind in their studies, schools that teach hands-on trades for those that are gifted with hands-on talents, standard schools for students that are on track based on their grade level, and college preparatory schools for those who need more challenges. No child is the same and there is no one size fits all approach. We need to respect that God gave all of us unique gifts and talents, strengths and weaknesses.

We also need to create mandatory courses that teach our children how to write a resume, find a job, and manage their finances, so we can prepare them to be successful members in our capitalistic economy.
