Sen. Tom Barrett on Monday welcomed reports that Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s office has confirmed she will adopt his pension tax cut proposal — Senate Bill 24 of 2021 — in her annual State of the State address this week.
Barrett has introduced this legislation each session since he was first elected.
“This legislation can make an enormous difference for our seniors,” said Barrett, R-Charlotte. “It is unfair to those on a fixed income to bear this additional burden of taxation on previously earned benefits. I appreciate Gov. Whitmer’s bipartisan support as she joins my effort to provide Michigan seniors with this overdue tax relief.”
