Congressman Cohen Announces $1.1 Million in Alcohol Research Grants to University of Tennessee Health Science Center

Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) will receive two grants totaling $1,113,036 from the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism. The first grant, for $628,113, is for a project entitled “Fetal cerebral arteries and prenatal alcohol exposure.” The second, for $504,923, is for a project entitled “Defining the Role of Intestinal Calcium Channels in Alcoholic Liver Damage.”

Congressman Cohen made the following statement:

“Better understanding alcohol’s impact on fetal development and liver damage will profoundly improve people’s health and quality of life. I am pleased to see this substantial investment in the UTHSC’s alcohol-related health research.”
