WASHINGTON, D.C. – EMILY’s List President Laphonza Butler released the following statement in response to NARAL Pro-Choice America naming Mini Timmaraju as its new president:
“Mini Timmaraju is a brilliant and effective leader who brings a wealth of valuable electoral and organizational experience with her, including as an EMILY’s List board member. At a moment when our reproductive rights are under greater threat than ever before, Mini is exactly the leader we need to help NARAL lead in this fight. And as the first woman of color to lead the organization, I know she will bring all of our communities to the table with her. I am thrilled to partner with Mini as we work to protect our rights.”
EMILY’s List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $700 million to elect Democratic pro-choice women candidates. With a grassroots community of over five million members, EMILY's List helps Democratic women win competitive campaigns – across the country and up and down the ballot – by recruiting and training candidates, supporting and helping build strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, running nearly $50 million in independent expenditures in the last cycle alone, and turning out women voters and voters of color to the polls.
