WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, EMILY’s List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, recognized Latina Equal Pay Day, which marks how far into 2021 Latinas must work to earn the same amount white, non-Hispanic men earned in 2020. Laphonza Butler, president of EMILY’s List, released the following statement:
“Latina Equal Pay Day — the last equal pay day of the year — is a reminder of how much work is yet to be done when fighting for equal pay and undoing intersectional systems of oppression. On average, Latinas earn 57 cents for every dollar a white man earns, meaning Latinas have to work nearly twice as much as a white man for the same pay. Despite the enactment of the Equal Pay Act over 50 years ago, disparities for women of color, especially Latinas, persist. Now more than ever, EMILY’s List is proud to support and help elect Latinas to office who push for equal pay policies to close this gap.”
