Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), which only he and Congressman Jim Cooper (TN-05) in Tennessee’s Congressional delegation supported, will provide $655,000 for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to dredge Wolf River Harbor.

Congressman Cohen made the following statement:

“This critical funding will improve access and navigability where the Wolf River flows into the Mississippi and is an important investment in our downtown economic infrastructure. I am pleased to have supported the IIJA, which has already sent millions of dollars for local Memphis infrastructure improvement projects.”

Congressman Cohen has been informing constituents of the benefits of the IIJA both locally and statewide.

Since mid-December, he announced the bill’s transit funding and funding for electric vehicle charging stations, as well as historic levels of funding for bridges, water systems, and other infrastructure that will be paid for by the IIJA he voted for.

Today, the Biden-Harris Administration announced that it will invest more than $2.7 billion in funding to 300 Army Corps projects, including the Wolf River project, focused on strengthening ports and waterways. The announcement follows the Biden Administration providing $14 billion from President’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and other appropriations to strengthen port and waterway supply chains and bolster climate resilience earlier this year. With today’s announcement, the Biden Administration will have invested a total of nearly $17 billion in new Bipartisan Infrastructure Law funding and other supplemental appropriations in fiscal year 2022 and 2023 for over 800 projects across 55 states and territories.
