Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a senior member of the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, today announced Fiscal Year 2022 apportionment for transit and highway programs released Wednesday by the Federal Transit Administration. The state of Tennessee will receive $124,189,119 and the Memphis urbanized area that includes parts of Arkansas and Mississippi will receive a total of $18,733,852, which will allow our transit authority to buy new buses and rail cars, address repair backlogs, modernize fleets and transition to new technologies that reduce carbon emissions.. The 58 percent increase in funding this year is thanks to the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act that Congressman Cohen voted to pass and that President Biden signed into law.
Congressman Cohen made the following statement:
“This funding, based on Federal Transit Administration formulas, will go a long way in improving mobility both statewide and in Memphis. This funding announcement comes a week after I was pleased to announce that the Biden Administration has proposed an additional $46 million for a bus rapid transit ‘innovation corridor’ linking downtown Memphis to the University of Memphis and medical center area. This level of investment in our region to upgrade and expand our transit system is transformational and will pay dividends for decades to come."
