Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) is commemorating the week-long Days of Remembrance of the Holocaust that precede and follow Holocaust Remembrance Day, also known as Yom HaShoah, to be observed on Thursday. The Days of Remembrance began on Sunday, April 24, and end on Sunday, May 1.
Congressman Cohen made the following statement:
“Every year, we remember some of the darkest days in our history by thinking of those lost in the Holocaust and vowing ‘never again.’ As Yom HaShoah approaches, let us observe these Days of Remembrance and renew our commitment to a pluralistic society of enduring democratic values that stands up to aggression and intolerance and condemns demonization of the ‘other’ and discrimination in all its forms.”
In 1980, Congress established the United States Holocaust Memorial Council which recommended an annual Day of Remembrance.
