Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a senior member of the Judiciary Committee, today questioned Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas about Ukrainian refugees, including children brought to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis for treatment. He also expressed his concern for Afghan interpreters awaiting entry into the U.S. and sought the status of the Department’s efforts to reunify children separated from their families under the Trump administration’s policy.

In his questioning, Congressman Cohen said in part:

“I’m very concerned with the situation in Ukraine and with the refugees…What is being done to accommodate the refugees who might want to come to the United States?...I don’t know if you had anything to do with this but there were about eight children and their families that were brought to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis for treatment, and if you did have anything to do with it, I thank you and, if you didn’t, thanks to whoever did…St. Jude’s very special to us. It’s free and serves those children and I thank you for getting them there.”
