Congresswoman McClain Announces Winners of the Congressional Art Competition

Today, Congresswoman Lisa McClain (R-MI) announced the winner of the 2021 Congressional Art Competition.

Kyra Purett from L’anse Creuse High School won the 2021 Congressional Art Competition with her painting “School Uniform”.

“Our young artists in Michigan’s 10th Congressional District submitted fantastic artwork, that showcased how talented our students are,” said Rep. McClain. “Congratulations, Kyra! I look forward to displaying your painting in the U.S. Capitol building.”

Rep. McClain hosted the inaugural Congressional Festival of Arts Saturday, April 17, 2021 at Jimmy John’s Field, where art from the 2021 Congressional Art Competition was displayed and judged by Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel, Lapeer Art Association President Tony Stroh and St. Clair Community College art professor Sarah Flatter.

82 students from throughout Michigan’s 10th Congressional District entered the competition. During the art show, the judges selected the top five pieces, and attendees selected the people’s choice award.

Alaina Kiehl from Anchor Bay High School won second place and the people’s choice award for her painting “Alaskan Harbor.”

Lauren Witham from Croswell-Lexington High School won third place with her painting “Blue Water Bridge in Fall.”

Gabe Steffler from Almont High School won fourth place with his painting “Stand Tall.”

Elizabeth Mulvaine from Utica High School won fifth place with her painting “Chili Powder.”

“School Uniform” will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol Building alongside art competition winners from throughout the country.
