Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a senior member of the Judiciary Committee, today questioned expert witnesses at a hearing entitled “Revoking Your Rights: The Ongoing Crisis in Abortion Care Access.”

In his questions, Congressman Cohen said an effort is under way to outlaw abortion in all 50 states, and continued:

“If the Senate and the House become Republican, that will happen. It will be outlawed here in all 50 states. Not just Mississippi. Not just Louisiana. Not just Arkansas and Texas and Oklahoma and all those red states, but everywhere.”

Congressman Cohen said that if the anticipated Supreme Court ruling overturns Roe v. Wade, Tennessee’s trigger law would outlaw most abortions statewide and require Memphians to travel to Illinois for the procedure.

Congressman Cohen also noted that, in their confirmation hearings, all three Trump-appointed justices testified that Roe v. Wade was settled law.
