Senate Passes Rep. McClain’s Congressional Gold Medal Bill

The United States Senate passed Congresswoman Lisa McClain’s (R-MI) bill Wednesday night, which would posthumously award the Congressional Gold Medal to the 13 U.S. military servicemembers who were killed in Afghanistan on August 26, 2021.

“The service and sacrifice of these 13 brave men and women will never be forgotten,” said Rep. McClain. “I’m proud this important legislation to award these heroes with Congress’ top honor is one step closer to becoming law. Thank you to Senators Steve Daines and Elizabeth Warren for leading this effort in the Senate.”

The legislation will award the Congressional Gold Medal to Staff Sgt. Darin Taylor Hoover, Sgt. Johanny Rosario Pichardo, Sgt. Nicole Gee, Cpl. Hunter Lopez, Cpl. Daegan Page, Cpl. Humberto Sanchez, Cpl. David Lee Espinoza, Lance Cpl. Jared Schmitz, Lance Cpl. Rylee McCollum, Lance Cpl. Dylan Merola, Lance Cpl. Kareem Nikoui, Hospitalman Maxton Soviak and Staff Sgt. Ryan Knauss.

The U.S. House of Representatives passed this bill in October. It now heads to President Biden’s desk.
