Tonight, Congressman Andy Levin (MI-09) hosted a virtual town hall with hundreds of attendees to provide updates on upcoming COVID relief legislation and fallout from the January 6 Capitol insurrection. Constituent questions ranged from vaccine distribution, redistricting, how raising the minimum wage would work in the economy and more.

Rep. Levin on the second impeachment trial of Donald Trump:
"My colleagues and I fought for accountability, and we fought to uphold our oath to the Constitution. I'm really proud of that. In last week's Senate trial I felt that House impeachment managers laid out a case of overwhelming and irrefutable evidence that President Trump did in fact incite a violent insurrection against the Capitol with us inside of it."
Rep. Levin on COVID relief:
"The bipartisan COVID relief package that Congress passed in December was a step in the right direction, but it was really only a long-delayed down payment. I'm going to tell you the American people cannot afford and, really, cannot survive, any more delays or half measures. Thankfully, President Biden has introduced his American Rescue Plan, and he takes a multi-pronged approach to tackling the public health crisis, the economic crisis that together are confronting our country."
Rep. Levin on COVID relief passed through the House Education & Labor Committee:
"Our bill strengthens workplace protections for essential workers, health and safety at every workplace where people have to show up in-person, and it gradually increases the minimum wage to $15 an hour by 2025. For every American worker with no sub-minimum wage for tipped workers or for workers with disabilities. And it does it slowly with certainty so small employers know when the minimum wage will go up and they can plan for it. This will give at least 27 million workers a long overdue raise and lift a million people out of poverty. It will put an additional $330 billion dollars of cashola into workers pockets over the next ten years. And that money, minimum wage workers, what are they going to do with it? They're not going to go put it in some savings account. They're going to spend it at local business, which will turbocharge our economic recovery. We've got to act fast to invest in students, workers and families, so we can avoid years of economic stagnation and suffering. If we aim too low with this package, the financial consequences will be catastrophic. They'll be long lasting, and who's going to bear the brunt of it? Not rich people. Workers and poor people who can afford it the least."
