Congressman Andy Levin (MI-09), member of the House Education & Labor Committee, released the following statement on President Biden's American Jobs Plan:
"As a union organizer and clean energy entrepreneur, I am thrilled to see President Biden put forward a plan that recognizes that investing in our country's green future is the key to our economic recovery. I am glad this includes a robust investment in workforce development and training to ensure that workers have the tools they need to acquire new skills and secure good-paying jobs in the years ahead.
"I am over the moon to hear the President of the United States call on the Senate to pass the Protecting the Right to Organize (PRO) Act as a part of his major infrastructure plan. The President knows that the freedom to form a union and bargain collectively are essential to rebuilding our infrastructure and our middle class. Now, the Senate must rise to the moment and ensure that this critical legislation is passed by whatever means necessary.
"This plan's investments in clean energy will help revitalize our economy, create good-paying union jobs and ensure cleaner air and water for our communities. When the Great Recession hit, Michigan bounced back by investing ambitiously in renewable energy, training and employing many tens of thousands of Michiganders in clean energy jobs, turning our state into a national leader. Today, as Michigan and the U.S. begin rebuilding from the economic devastation of the pandemic, President Biden understands that the climate crisis requires nothing less than the U.S. becoming a global leader, and he has offered a solid plan to get us started.
"This month, I have been hard at work with my colleagues in the House and Senate to put forward clean energy proposals to create over one million good-paying, union jobs and meet the climate and economic crises we face with the urgency they demand. My green procurement bill with Senator Elizabeth Warren to federally fund American-made clean energy products and my BUILD GREEN Infrastructure and Jobs Act with Senator Warren, Senator Ed Markey and Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez to electrify all manner of transportation will bring the President's proposals to life, as will my EV Freedom Act to build a nationwide network of EV charging infrastructure. What we need now is the full measure of resources necessary to make these proposals a reality.
"Realizing the existential threat that we face and fully embracing the mandate bestowed upon us by the American voters who gave us the White House and our majorities, I will push for the investments we need to meet this moment in the months ahead."
