TOPEKA – Governor Laura Kelly today continued her statewide tour celebrating the “Axe the Food Tax” legislation she signed May 11. House Bill 2106 will completely eliminate the state sales tax on groceries by 2025. Since formally signing the bill, she has met with communities in Wichita, Kansas City, and Topeka to discuss how the food tax will provide Kansans with much-needed financial relief as costs continue to rise.

“From reducing food insecurity to making our grocery stores more competitive, our efforts to axe the tax will help every single Kansan,” Governor Laura Kelly said. “I want to thank communities across the state for supporting this legislation.”

At a Wichita food distribution center on June 4, Governor Kelly emphasized that the legislation will reduce food insecurity. At a Kansas City Price Chopper on June 10, she talked about how lowering the nation’s second-highest grocery sales tax from 6.5% to 0% will make grocery stores along the state border more competitive. And today at a Latino-owned grocery store in Topeka, Mi Pueblito Meat Market, she talked about how the tax cut will impact Latino Kansans.
