Today, Congressman Andy Levin released the following statement after joining President Joe Biden for a tour of the Ford Rouge Electric Vehicle Center and securing the endorsement of Ford Motor Company for his EV Freedom Act:
"The Rouge plant, where Henry Ford integrated everything about assembling a car a century ago, is the closest thing we have to a temple of American manufacturing. Now Ford is going to build not just any electric car here, but the vehicle that symbolizes American mobility more than any other, that crosses all political and geographic lines, that is both workhorse and show horse: the F-150 Lightning pickup truck.
"As a champion of our Detroit industry and of bold action to tackle climate change and create good, union jobs, I was so honored to take part in this visit with President Biden – a moment that brings all these urgent priorities together.
"Now, the work of creating the infrastructure to support the Lightning and other union-made-in-the-USA electric vehicles begins. Today, the President recommitted to his investment in EV chargers, and Ford announced its endorsement of my EV Freedom Act as the comprehensive plan to make the President's vision of readily available charging a reality across our national highway system. What huge progress in our fight to bring industry, energy, climate and labor together under the umbrella of saving our one precious Earth and creating great American jobs."
