Congressman Richard E. Neal released the following statement today after the House and Senate passed the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, historic gun violence prevention legislation.

“I applaud members of Congress for acting quickly to pass the most significant gun legislation in nearly 30 years. The Bipartisan Safer Communities Act will enact commonsense measures to protect our children and keep our communities safe, including enhanced background checks and providing critical funding for mental health services. This bill will save lives while ensuring the constitutional rights of law-abiding Americans are not infringed upon.”

The bill now heads to President Biden’s desk to be signed into law.
