Today, Congressman Tom O’Halleran (AZ-01) applauded an announcement from the Federal Transit Administration of $10.3 million through the Tribal Transit Program competitive grant program. Funds are made available via the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law that O’Halleran helped craft and voted to pass. Over $300,000 of the available funds are headed directly to Arizona’s First Congressional District.
“My team and I worked hard to ensure that long-overlooked tribal communities were prioritized in the infrastructure bill we passed in the fall—I’m beyond pleased to see competitive grant funding already beginning to reach tribes in Arizona to assist them in building out the transportation infrastructure they need,” said O’Halleran.
Funding breakdown for AZ-01:
Ak-Chin Indian Community | The Ak-Chin Indian Community will receive funding to purchase a transit vehicle and support infrastructure. This project will improve access for residents in the community and better connect them to jobs, health care and economic opportunities. | $157,700 |
Kaibab Band of Paiute Indians | The Kaibab Band of Paiute Indians will receive funding to replace transit vehicles that have exceeded their useful life. This project will help residents access healthcare and other services in northern Mohave and Coconino Counties and nearby southern Utah. | $76,900 |
White Mountain Apache Tribe Division of Transportation | The White Mountain Apache Tribe Division of Transportation will receive funding to purchase a mobile maintenance vehicle to assist the Fort Apache Connection Transit (FACT). This project will address state of good repair needs and help the tribe continue to provide safe and reliable transit service to help residents access jobs, school and community services on the White Mountain Apache Indian Reservation. | $100,000 |
FTA expects to receive more support under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which provides an additional $229 million for formula and competitive grants over the next five years.
