“This past weekend historic levels of rain hit Metro Detroit, flooding streets and homes and putting thousands in harm’s way. One of the best ways to address climate change is to empower local communities to respond. I’m thrilled to announce that $1,000,000 in funding for Chapaton Retention Basin in-storage expansion made it into this bill to protect our homes and waters in Macomb County,” said Rep. Levin.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Andy Levin (MI-09) announced that he secured $1,743,500 in funding within the fiscal year 2022 Interior Appropriations bill. The projects included for consideration so far are:
- Chapaton Retention Basin In-Storage Expansion - $1,000,000
- Kensington Water Main and Lead Service Line Replacement - Pleasant Ridge - $650,000
- Tree Canopy Enhancement for Community Health and Resilience - Royal Oak Urban Forestry Project - $93,500
"I would like to thank committee chairwoman Rosa DeLauro, Interior subcommittee chairwoman Chellie Pingree and their staff for also including other important priorities to clean our drinking water and air: water main lead service line replacement for Pleasant Ridge and an urban forestry project in Royal Oak," continued Rep. Levin. "I worked closely with local leaders and elected officials to bring these important projects before Congress, and I will continue to work for their inclusion in this legislation and for their eventual passage to help our communities as we recover from the pandemic."
Rep. Levin submitted several Community Project Funding (CPF) requests to the Appropriations Committee. Information on the status of additional requests will be announced in the coming days. Now that this funding has been included in the Appropriations Committee draft bill, it must be approved by the full House, then the Senate, and signed by President Biden before it can reach our communities.
