Today, Congressman Andy Levin (MI-09) announced that he secured the inclusion of $248,625 for the St. Clair Shores Pump Station in the Fiscal Year 2022 Homeland Security Appropriations bill.

The City of St. Clair Shores is seeking to install a pump station to prevent flooding and to keep both Jefferson Avenue and Masonic Boulevard open during high lake levels. The project will extend the life of St. Clair Shores' roads, while also addressing transportation challenges that disproportionately impact the area's most vulnerable residents. When flooding prohibits travel between home and work, or damages vehicles and properties, all residents suffer, but low-income residents—who might be unable to find alternate transportation or afford repairs—bear the greatest burdens.

"As we've seen as recently as this week, flooding is a consistent threat to members of my community," said Rep. Levin. "Thank you to Chair Lucille Roybal-Allard and the Appropriations Committee's Homeland Security Subcommittee for electing to provide these much-needed funds to better local infrastructure in Macomb County. I will continue to fight for the people of Macomb and Oakland Counties to ensure that we get the federal funding we need to make our communities and most vulnerable residents safer and more resilient to the effects of climate change."

Rep. Levin previously submitted several Community Project Funding requests to the Appropriations Committee. On Tuesday, Rep. Levin announced funding for Macomb and Oakland Counties included in the Interiors Subcommittee bill. Information on the status of additional requests will be announced in the coming days.

The inclusion of this funding in the Homeland Security Subcommittee's draft bill is the first step in the funding process. Now that this funding has been included in the Appropriations Committee draft bill, it must be approved by the full House, then the Senate, and signed by President Biden before it can reach our communities.
